First workshop of ICOMOS University Forum held in Paris

From 13-15 March, the ICOMOS University Forum kicked off with a pilot workshop addressing “A Contemporary Provocation: Reconstruction as Tools of Future-making”, sponsored by Kyushu University (Japan). Some thirty specialists, both young researchers and senior professionals from around the world, met for discussions on authenticity and reconstruction at ICOMOS International in Paris.

ICOMOS International Scientific Committee featured in American Anthropologist

“Managing the Past, Engaging the Present”, a feature on ICAHM (ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management) was just published in American Anthropologist, the premier anthropology journal in the U.S.

This is a special section of American Anthropologist dedicated to cultural heritage management. It includes an interview of Doug Comer, president of ICAHM, which is followed by a selection of essays from heritage scholars around the world.

Arcadia Fund awards grant to support 3D recording of endangered cultural sites in the Middle East and North Africa

Pilot phase to focus on Syria

Project Anqa, which seeks to preserve cultural heritage using 3D digital recordings, has received a major contribution from the Arcadia Fund, a UK grant-making fund whose mission is to protect endangered culture and nature. Project Anqa, meaning “phoenix” in Arabic, is a joint initiative of ICOMOS, the International Council on Monuments and Sites, CyArk, an international non-profit organisation, and the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage at Yale University.

European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 needs adequate funding

The European Heritage Alliance 3.3, of which ICOMOS is a member, is calling on 28 EU Heads of State or Government to ensure that the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 is supported with adequate financial resources.

The 37 heritage-related European and international networks which form part of the European Heritage Alliance 3.3 (Alliance), have signed and sent a joint letter to the leaders of EU Member States urging them to seize the historic opportunity of the event marking the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome on 25 March 2017 to publicly recognise that the entire European project has a wider cultural meaning and significance derived from our shared cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible.
