ICOMOS is proud to be a part of a global team which today is launching a new project to support climate action in Africa through cultural heritage. The project, which is led by institutions in Africa and the United Kingdom, will pilot application in Africa of the Climate Vulnerability Index for World Heritage properties (the CVI-Africa project).
Culture x Climate 2020 is a virtual global forum for arts, culture and heritage-based climate action presented by the Climate Heritage Network. It runs from 12 October to 27 November, anchored by Climate Heritage Week 2020 (16-22 November).
ICOMOS and Europa Nostra have announced a new collaboration to develop a “European Heritage Green Paper” on the issue of cultural heritage and climate change. The Paper focuses on the role of cultural heritage in achieving the ambitions of the European Green Deal (EGD).

Cultural heritage is both impacted by climate change and an important part of strategies for driving climate action. So where does the cultural heritage community stand now in terms of engaging on climate change, where do we want to go and how do we get there? The USA’s Smithsonian Institution is putting the focus squarely on these urgent questions at a two-day long symposium entitled ‘Stemming the Tide: Global Strategies for Sustaining Cultural Heritage Through Climate Change.’
