In the framework of the international assistance "Establishment of the Tentative List of Djibouti", two online workshops were organized by the World Heritage Centre, in collaboration with ICOMOS and IUCN, on Wednesday 15 June and Wednesday 27 July 2022 for the elaboration of the Tentative List of Djibouti.

This first session brought together a national team of cultural and natural heritage experts in the premises of the Ministry of Culture of Djibouti, and international experts from ICOMOS and IUCN, who participated online. It addressed themes related to the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in general, and the process Djibouti went through as regards the elaboration of its Tentative List in particular.

During the second session of the workshop, the results of the national team's work on four sites inscribed on the Tentative List were discussed and a roadmap summarizing the steps necessary to prepare experts for the development of future solid nominations were established.

This activity is an important first step towards the effective implementation of the World Heritage Convention in Djibouti, ICOMOS is very glad to have participated on this activity that contributes to enhance the representativity of Africa on the World Heritage List, as part of UNESCO priority Africa.
