This new episode of ICORP on the Road team tells the story of how the communities of India and Pakistan, who have parted into two countries a long time ago, have been taking care of each other’s cultural heritage that was left on the other side of the border with love and respect.
For this episode, which was filmed in India, the author of the story is Gurmeet Sangha Rai, Vice President of ICOMOS India, and Fauzia Husain Qureshi, President of ICOMOS Pakistan is the narrator.
Titled “Kartarpur Corridor- Collective memories of Connected histories”, the episode shows the engagement of the local community in taking care of the heritage of the ‘other’ as a service. It further challenges the question of who heritage belongs to in the context of displacement and the relationship between cultural heritage and local communities, particularly those who were ‘displaced’ and ‘relocated’.
