Amendment of the ICOMOS Statutes: 2nd consultation The 17th General Assembly of ICOMOS approved resolution n°17GA 2011/10 which set up a working group and process for preparing amendments to the ICOMOS Statutes. Furthermore, the 17th General Assembly asked the same working group to revise the Ethical Commitment Statement and to examine if the number of ICOMOS working languages could be extended. Why is the amendment of the ICOMOS Statutes necessary? The 2008-2011 Executive Committee identified ambiguities in the Statutes in relation to governance and financial stability, which are a threat to the sustainability of ICOMOS. In addition there were requests for adapting the association to new needs, and it turned out that the English and French versions of the Statutes are not identical. General Assembly resolution 17 GA 2011/10 provides a firm mandate to proceed aiming at adopting amendments at the next General Assembly in 2014, 50 years after the decision to create ICOMOS was taken in Venice. ICOMOS members and Committees are invited to send their comments and suggestions relating to the proposed amendments in English and French to secretariat@icomos.org by 31 January 2013.
