The International Summer School of the ICOMOS University Forum 2026 will take place in the historic city of Bergama, Türkiye. Organised within the framework of the ICOMOS University Forum, this intensive programme explores the concept of “living heritage” in a layered urban context, focusing on the dynamic relationships between past and present in historically rich environments.

Programme Overview

This year, the theme of the University Forum is “Coexistence – Bergama: Rethinking Living Heritage in a Layered City”. proposes a multidisciplinary and immersive learning experience combining:

  • Theoretical lectures delivered by international experts
  • On-site analysis of Bergama’s cultural and urban layers
  • Fieldwork and collaborative workshops
  • Group discussions and project-based learning

Participants will engage directly with the historic fabric of the city.
Bergama, known for its multi-layered cultural landscape, offers an ideal setting for investigating how heritage continues to evolve, adapt, and interact with contemporary life.

Learning Focus

The programme is structured around key thematic axes:
