The 2025 ICOMOS TheoPhilos conference will mark the 60th anniversary of ICOMOS and the 20th anniversary of the foundation of TheoPhilos under the theme ‘The Role of ICOMOS in the Evolution of Heritage Theory and Philosophy: Achievements, Problems, Challenges’. It will take place in Liège, Belgium, 20-21 November 2025.
Over the past six decades, ICOMOS has made significant contributions to the advancement of international heritage principles through its National and International Scientific Committees. In a context where heritage is increasingly threatened by armed conflict, climate change, and the instrumentalisation of culture for political or economic purposes, the 60th anniversary of ICOMOS offers a timely opportunity to reflect on the organisation’s role in shaping heritage theory and philosophy.
