
The CIPA Summer School 2026 offers an intensive international training programme dedicated to the documentation, recording, and digital preservation of cultural heritage.
Organised within the framework of CIPA Heritage Documentation, a joint ICOMOS-ISPRS International Scientific Committee, the programme contributes to strengthening global capacities in heritage recording and conservation practices.
Held in the picturesque village of Byurakan, Armenia, from 19–25 June 2026, the CIPA Summer School focuses on the use of advanced digital surveying and 3D documentation methods applied to archaeological sites, monuments, and historic environments.

The programme offers not only technical training but also an immersive professional experience within a global network committed to protecting cultural heritage for future generations. Participants will notably have the opportunity to document the 10th-century St. Hovhannes Church using advanced technologies with seasoned tutors.
The curriculum introduces participants to contemporary techniques such as photogrammetry, laser scanning, 3D surveying and modelling, digital data acquisition and processing, in addition to heritage documentation workflows.
Through this combined approach, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies support the protection, analysis, and long-term conservation of cultural heritage.

Participants will work directly with professional equipment and software: therefore allowing them to transform collected data into accurate digital models usable for research, conservation, and dissemination purposes.
All teaching activities will be conducted in English, to be inclusive of an international and multidisciplinary audience.
Upon completion of the programme, participants will receive an official certificate of participation, acknowledging their involvement in both theoretical and practical components of the training.
The participation fee covers tuition, accommodation, meals, access to equipment and software, training materials, and supervised field activities. Travel expenses, insurance, and visa costs remain the responsibility of participants.
