The International Scientific Committee on Cultural Tourism (ICTC) is launching the ICTC Webinar Series 2026: “From Principles to Practice – Applying the ICOMOS International Charter for Cultural Heritage Tourism (2022)”. This monthly online programme is dedicated to examining the practical implementation of the Charter and fostering informed discussion among heritage professionals in advance of the ICOMOS General Assembly 2026 in Kuching.
In 2022, ICOMOS adopted the International Charter for Cultural Heritage Tourism, which provides a comprehensive framework for managing tourism at cultural heritage places in a manner that safeguards heritage values, supports communities, and promotes sustainability. The Charter emphasises participatory governance, responsible planning, inclusive interpretation, equitable benefit-sharing, and long-term environmental stewardship.
The webinar series aims to support ICTC and ICOMOS members in translating these principles into operational strategies. Each session will address specific themes of the Charter, combining focused presentations with moderated discussions to facilitate exchange of experiences and professional perspectives.
All sessions begin at 13:00 CET:
Overview of the ICTC mandate, the objectives and structure of the 2022 Charter, and the practical tools developed to support its implementation.
Examination of how to place heritage conservation at the centre of tourism planning through strategic management instruments, participatory governance, and responsible visitor management.
Discussion of how research, documentation, interpretation, and educational initiatives can enhance public understanding while safeguarding the cultural significance of heritage places.
Analysis of mechanisms to recognise community rights, strengthen local participation, and ensure that tourism generates equitable social and economic benefits.
Exploration of strategies to integrate climate action, resilience, and sustainability into long-term heritage tourism management and policy frameworks.
The structure of the programme reflects the Charter’s integrated approach, progressing from governance and planning frameworks to community engagement, educational strategies, climate action, and sustainable long-term management.
Participation is free of charge and open to ICTC members and to ICOMOS members in general.
Participants must register in advance.
