Disaster and Conflict Resilient Heritage, what sustainable Future to Expect?

On the occasion of the International Day for Monuments and Sites 2025, ICOMOS Sustainable Development Goals Working Group (SDGWG) hosts a webinar addressing the impact of armed conflicts on heritage sites and the resilience of heritage sites after natural disasters. The organisers invite participants to discuss how to make heritage sites more resilient and sustainable to be better prepared for the future.

Different speakers will share their insights on the subject and participants will be encouraged to actively contribute to the discussion. Three final products will be presented during the webinar:
• A collective poster made of World Heritage sites suffering or healing from conflicts or natural disasters.
• A collectively made banner composed of statements on the role of heritage in fostering resilience of communities in the wake of armed conflicts and natural disasters.
• A mosaic of short videos featuring heritage sites that have been affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters.
