ARC-WH and ICOMOS 4th Edition Workshop in Aswan

Cover CBP 4thedition ENARC-WH and ICOMOS Capacity Building Programme for World Heritage Professionals in the Arab Region / Strengthening Capacities of World Heritage Professionals for Cultural and Natural Sites in the Arab Region: The 4th edition of the workshop will take place from 29 January until 2 February 2023 in Aswan (Arab Republic of Egypt).

The “Strengthening Capacities of World Heritage Professionals for Cultural and Natural Sites in the Arab Region” is organised by the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage (ARC-WH) and ICOMOS in the framework of their Memorandum of Understanding and in collaboration with The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as well as the ministry of Tourism and Antiquity of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The five-day training course will be divided into 2 parts.

First, a theoretical phase introduces and discusses the concepts and tools in use under the World Heritage Convention and introduces work of the Advisory Bodies on the evaluation of sites presented for inscription to the Wolrd Heritage List and on the State of Conservation. It will also include a special session on Arabic terminology. 

Second, an immersive on-site exercise to the World Heritage Site of “Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae” will give the participants the opportunity to produce a mock Technical Evaluation Mission and Reactive Monitoring Mission.

Finally, participants will also have the chance to present case studies from their respective countries and exchange ideas on best practices.

Module 2 / Criteria and Outstanding Universal Value (OUV)
Module 3 / State of Conservation and Monitoring
Module 4 / Legal framework and Management
Module 5 / Threats and factors affecting the properties
Module 6 / Exercise in a World Heritage Property
Module 7 / Participants' case studies

This is the 4th edition of the “Strengthening Capacities of World Heritage Professionals for Cultural and Natural Sites in the Arab Region” workshop.
