ICOMOS, as a founding signatory, is asking the national governments that are parties to the UN Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) and its Paris Agreement to adopt a ‘Joint Work on Culture and Climate Action’ decision (JWD) at the next UN Climate Change Conference (COP28). Artists and cultural voices from across the world are uniting to call for climate negotiators at COP28 to put cultural heritage, arts and creative industries at the heart of climate action.

For this GivingTuesday on 28 November 2023, support 4 ICOMOS National Committees, who have been going through traumatic events in their respective countries. ICOMOS Pakistan is still recovering from last year's floods, while ICOMOS Burkina Faso deals with terrorism, ICOMOS Sudan with armed conflict and ICOMOS Syria with the aftermath of this year's earthquake and an ongoing crisis.

On 2 November 2001, the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage was adopted by the 31st session of the General Conference of UNESCO. Twenty two years later, ICOMOS takes this opportunity to interview Christopher Underwood, President of the ICUCH (ICOMOS International Committee on Underwater Cultural Heritage) and reflect on the place our societies give this precious heritage.

The AFRICA24 Conference is organized by the ICOMOS International Scientific Committees CIAV (ISC on vernacular architecture), ISCEAH (ISC on Earthen architectural heritage), ICTC (ISC on Cultural Tourism), ISCCL (ISC on Cultural Landscapes), ICICH (ISC on Intangible cultural heritage), ISCES (ISC on Energy and Sustainability), and ICOMOS International Working Groups OCD-RBA (Our Common Dignity Rights-Based Approaches) and EPWG (Emerging professionals).

On 17 October 2003, the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted by the 32nd session of the General Conference of UNESCO. Twenty years later, ICOMOS takes this opportunity to interview Munish Pandit, President of the ICICH (ICOMOS International Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage) and reflect on the place our societies give this precious heritage.

This past week, ICOMOS has witnessed with horror and despair the unspeakable attacks, loss of life and suffering inflicted on Israeli and Palestinian civilians – who are again paying the heaviest price in this conflict, our own members and their families included. We express our deepest condolences and solidarity to all those who have lost or are still missing their loved ones.
