Preserving Legacies Observer Site Nomination Form
This is a nomination form to participate in the Preserving Legacies program. Self nominations are encouraged.

Preserving Legacies: A Future for our Past is a training program that equips site managers and community leaders with the scientific knowledge and technical training to develop place and people-based climate change adaptation plans. By combining cutting-edge science, community capacity building, and interactive networking, Preserving Legacies is increasing access to heritage adaptation and transforming conservation as a field to meet the challenges of the climate crisis.

In 2023, Preserving Legacies worked with 10 global heritage sites. Information about these sites and their experiences can be found on the project website (https://heritageadapts.org).

The Project will select new sites to begin as Observer Sites in 2024. You can read about what selection criteria we use here.

Observer Sites fully engage in a 12-month hybrid climate heritage and cultural heritage training and a peer-to-peer learning experience. Site custodians from these sites will shadow a climate risk assessment workshop in-person and have discussions on the process of conducting a climate heritage risk assessment, to prepare for the opportunity to lead their own assessments for their community and site in 2025.

Once a site graduates from being an Observer Site, they become a Primary Site. Primary Sites put their training of climate science and site conservation into action. They work with scientists to create a locally downscaled climate change models and organize a community-led workshop of the sites’ climate risks as well as impacts on local communities.

DISCLAIMER: Submitting this form does not guarantee your selection to participate in the Preserving Legacies 2024 cohort. Once submitted, our management team will evaluate sites based on the selection criteria and best fit with our project priorities for 2024. You will receive an email in February about the status of your application.
