International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS)’s Post

📢 ICOMOS is pleased to announce that a new international scientific committee has been created: ISC on Aerospace Heritage! 🚀 With this announcement, ICOMOS’ heritage endeavours now extend from aviation and space related facilities on the Earth to the Moon and across the Solar System. 🔭 The ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on AeroSpace Heritage includes diverse group of heritage specialists interested in activities related to aeronautics and space exploration. The committee’s mission is contributing to identification, investigation, protection and sustainable management of humanity’s tangible and intangible aeronautical and astronautical heritage on Earth, and in orbit and wider space. Humanities heritage in cosmos, with wide scope for understanding and systematising that, is a particularly significant area of interest for the Committee. 🌌 The Committee members work in fields that are related to heritage in its different manifestations and have close interactions and collaborations with other ICOMOS committees as well as major international scientific centres. Stay tuned for more information on Aerospace Heritage in the coming weeks! #MeetOurISCs #Aerospace #Aeronautics #Heritage #Planets #AerospaceHeritage #Explore

The significance of the buildings, structures, objects, and sites associated with NASA's manned space program has been a component of the agency's heritage management program since the 1980s, starting with the National Park Service's theme study, "Man in Space."
