Preserving Legacies is excited to announce today's publication: A groundbreaking climate risk assessment for the ancient Nabatean city of Petra! The report, a collaboration between local and international researchers, marks The first to address Petra's climate impacts alongside risks to the local community's social and economic values. These are the Key Insights: - Economic values like tourism and agriculture are crucial for the local community. - Drought poses a significant threat, particularly to broader landscape values. - Adaptation efforts, including traditional Nabatean water management, mitigate some risks. - Values-based approach highlights the importance of integrating diverse knowledge systems and engaging communities in decision-making. This report paves the way for sustainable climate action, ensuring Petra's preservation for future generations. #climatechange International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) National Geographic Society Climate Heritage Network Petra National Trust Petra Development And Tourism Region Authority

  • ⚪ Heritage Alert : Update ⚪   Following the 2019 #HeritageAlert, ICOMOS, ICOMOS Danmark and ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on #20thcenturyheritage (ISC20C) welcome recent indications that plans for the demolition of the internationally recognised modernist #VikingShipHall of the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde have changed. 🏆The winning design of the architectural competition proposes a separate new hall with modern exhibition facilities for the 5 Viking shipwrecks, while the old hall is to be preserved, although partly altered and used for public events. Another important feature of the winning proposal is the transformation of the surrounding landscape to withstand the regular flooding from the Roskilde fjord. ⏳ The funding to conserve the historic hall has not yet been secured: the approach to the future use of the original Viking Ship Hall and the recognition of the site’s cultural significance will be important factors as the project progresses. 🌐 More information: https://buff.ly/3Qhx9ar
