ICOMOS Italy and the International Scientific Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICICH) are organising an International Symposium, which will take place in Ravello, Italy, from 8 to 11 November 2026. The symposium aims to discuss emerging approaches to safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and its relationship with places, communities and sustainable development.

A Global Forum for Intangible Cultural Heritage

The symposium will provide an international platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the evolving role of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in contemporary heritage conservation. Participants are invited to present original research, case studies and innovative practices that contribute to advancing knowledge and professional practice within the field.

The event will encourage exchanges between academics, conservation specialists, community representatives and cultural institutions, highlighting the importance of living heritage in responding to current global challenges.

The ICICH International Symposium offers participants the opportunity to:

  • Share current research and professional practice with an international audience;
  • Exchange ideas with leading experts in intangible cultural heritage;
  • Strengthen international collaboration across the ICOMOS network;
  • Contribute to ongoing discussions on the future of heritage conservation and living heritage.

As intangible cultural heritage continues to play an increasingly significant role in heritage policies worldwide, the symposium aims to foster dialogue that bridges theory, practice and community engagement.
