ICOMOS President in Kinshasa to prepare capacity-building workshop

8dec21 Audience Ministre Culture 2a CopyICOMOS President Teresa Patrício travelled to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo to prepare a capacity-building workshop on the elaboration of a general inventory of the country's cultural heritage. This training will be carried out by ICOMOS, thanks to the support of the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Zones (ALIPH) and in collaboration with the National Advisory Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict (CCN) of the DRC.

All over the world, national heritage services are establishing national cultural heritage inventories in view of ensuring its protection and enhancement, as well as its transmission to future generations. Today, heritage policies play a central role and are increasingly becoming the engine for sustainable development of civil society. A national inventory of cultural heritage represents the foundation of any heritage policy.

The establishment of an inventory focusing on tangible heritage would provide the basic tool for all heritage management in the DRC and would pave the way for its national protection, conservation, valorisation and promotion.
