ICOMOS GA2020 | Save the Date!
From 1-10 October 2020, cultural heritage practitioners from around the world will converge in Sydney, Australia, for the 20th triennial General Assembly of ICOMOS.

Save the date and join us for the first ever GA in the Pacific Region, to explore the theme "Shared Cultures - Shared Heritage - Shared Responsibility". Visit the website at https://icomosga2020.org/ for details, and sign up to the mailing list to be the first to hear about speaker announcements, exclusive experiences at World Heritage sites, and travel deals.
GA2020 will also provide opportunities for side events and tours to World Heritage properties and well-established symbols of Australian identity, including the Greater Blue Mountains, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, the Great Barrier Reef and the Port Arthur Historic Site.
Learn the Story behind the Logo
The logo for GA2020 features a Xanthorrhoea plant in the shape of the Sydney Opera House. The Xanthorrhoea plant is also known as ‘Gadi’ – the plant name is connected to the Gadigal people, the Traditional Owners of the Country on which GA2020 will take place. The logo neatly encapsulates our ‘shared’ natural and cultural heritage, and was designed for us by Koori artist Blak Douglas. Find out more on the website.

Explore the Scientific Symposium Theme
The theme of the four day Scientific Symposium: "Shared Cultures – Shared Heritage – Shared Responsibility", reflects the global context of heritage as part of cultural identity at a time of rapid population shift, conflict and environmental uncertainty. The important notion of shared stewardship, for which the "Culture-Nature Journey" is of particular relevance, requires agreed approaches to the sustainable protection, conservation and safeguarding of heritage. Our call for papers opens on 2 October - Formats include paper presentations, short talks, panel discussions, round table discussions (or ‘dialogues’), short field visits (‘walk and talk’), debates, performance, film, and posters.
Travel Grants will be Available
For ICOMOS members in some regions of the world, the cost of travelling to Sydney in 2020 may be an expense that neither the National Committee nor any of its members can afford.
Financial assistance to attend GA2020 will be provided thanks to the ICOMOS Victoria Falls – Mosi-oa Tunya Solidarity Fund and a generous grant from the Getty Foundation.
More information on how to apply for a travel grant will be available starting on 2 October 2019.
