ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Economics on Conservation – Call for membership

Callformembers ISCEC ICOMOSUnder the new leadership of Prof. Xavier Greffe, the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Economics of Conservation (ISCEC), is looking to enlarge and diversify its membership, as well as improve its geographic diversity.

Past and possible future fields of work by the Committee include – among other – indicators for assessing the contribution and impact of cultural heritage to sustainable economic development and quality of life, adaptive reuse and circular and creative economy, economic considerations in assessing the contribution of cultural heritage in climate action, issues relating to the conservation of commemorative sites, and analysis of costs and options.

Sans titre"For several decades now, economic research has been focusing on the role that heritage conservation can play both in itself and for the benefit of sustainable development. This has been accompanied by increasing attention to the transformation of uses that conservation enables or develops, and of the angles of view and processes that it mobilizes. The growing use of expressions such as circular, creative or solidarity economy, as well as its contributions to cultural landscapes, environment and climate, bear witness to this. It's not a matter of prolonging the past for the sake of the past alone, but of building a future enriched by the legacies, experiences and lessons of those who have gone before us."
- Prof. Xavier Greffe, president of ISCEC
