Swat valley

The third episode of the International Committee on Risk Preparedness (ICORP) - On The Road documentary series “They Didn’t Come For The Lands” is dedicated to the Swat Valley of Pakistan which was under terrorist attack between the years 2007-2009.
Along with loss of many lives and disruption of daily life, the attacks also resulted in damaging and destroying a number of the multilayered cultural heritage of former historical periods of the Valley.

The episode is sharing the story of the local community members who took responsibility for the protection of these sites that they share with a variety of other communities from all over the world whilst facing serious challenges that put their lives at risk.

The ON THE ROAD Project is bringing life to the five inspiring stories of post-disaster response and recovery of cultural heritage from local people and professionals around the world. To date, the filming of the five episodes were completed bringing to life untold stories from Nepal, Turkey, Mali, Pakistan and Brazil.
