ICOMOS and the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco - Life Beyond Tourism sign a Memorandum of Understanding

Paolo Del Bianco and Gustavo Araoz sign the MOU in the company of Mr Francesco Caruso, ICOMOS Executive, Committee member and Ms Carlotta Del Bianco, Vice President, Ms Caterina Del Bianco, Board member and Mr Simone Giometti,Secretary General of the Foundation On 4 March 2013, Gustavo Araoz, President of ICOMOS, and Paolo Del Bianco, President of the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco - Life Beyond Tourism, signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing the collaboration between the two organisations on scientific activities related to heritage conservation and intercultural dialogue.

The signing ceremony was held at the ICOMOS International Secretariat in Paris in presence of the ICOMOS Executive Committee members.

The objective of this MOU is to establish a general framework of cooperation for activities to be planned and implemented jointly by ICOMOS and the Foundation. These activities will have the shared objective of exploring and promoting best practices in the interpretation and presentation of cultural heritage, and the need for intercultural dialogue within the framework of sustainable development.

The Foundation will put its Life Beyond Tourism Non Profit Cultural Portal/Heritage Community web 2.0 at the disposal of ICOMOS. ICOMOS whose charters and texts (such as the ICOMOS Charters on Cultural Tourism and on Interpretation and Presentation) stress the need for interpretation of cultural heritage values for community development, will in turn encourage its network of members, National and International Committees to contribute the outcomes of their cultural and scientific activities (such as research, events, papers and reviews) to the portal. The aim is to promote identification and provide support to local cultural expressions and traditional knowledge of heritage sites and areas, recognizing the connections that exist between cultural identities and how heritage is interpreted and presented.

DSC2034In addition, on a bi-annual basis, the Foundation will assist ICOMOS with the organization of scientific meetings in Florence.  These events will take place at the new “Palazzo Coppini - International Studies and Meeting Centre” – housed in a recently restored Renaissance palace, close to Brunelleschi’s Dome and the Foundation’s “Amphitheatre Andrzej Tomaszewski”. As Paolo Del Bianco announced, the new facility will be inaugurated on 8 May 2013 and its meeting rooms will be dedicated to seven experts of the Foundation, among which three ICOMOS members: Bohumil Fanta (Czech Republic), Aleksej Komech (Russia) and Mihaly Zador (Hungary).

ICOMOS and the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco invite you to visit the Life Beyond Tourism Non Profit Cultural Portal/Heritage Community web 2.0, join the Foundation’s LBT Community, and actively contribute to the portal.
