Grosvenor Auditorium, National Geographic Society
17th and M Streets, NW (entrance on M Street)
With the
exception of the Wednesday evening public lecture, all presentations will be
held in Grosvenor Auditorium in the headquarters of the National Geographic
Society. (Breakout sessions on Friday will also be held in the Charles
Sumner School directly across the street).
Grosvenor
Auditorium/National Geographic Society is accessible by the Red Line of
Washington's Metro (subway) system, with the Farrugut North Station and
Dupont Circle Station being just a few blocks away.

No conference hotel was reserved for the US/ICOMOS
Symposium, given the availability of meeting facilities at the National
Geographic Society, the high costs of hotel contracts in the city, and the
proximity of numerous nearby hotels in various price ranges. The closest hotel to the conference venue is
the Mayflower Hotel (directly across the street from the conference venue),
but many other hotels are located nearby, particularly around Dupont
Circle just a few blocks away. Websites for hotels in

Washington, DC is located in the
mid-Atlantic region of the United States, situated between Virginia and
Maryland.
By Air: Washington is served by
three major airports:
Washington,
DC
is served by three major airports: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)
Metro
(subway) service is available from National Airport, but a taxi or shuttle
service will be the best bet from Dulles or BWI into downtown Washington.
By Bus: While not the only bus service
in the area,
Greyhound serves Washington with regularly scheduled routes.
Numerous other alternative (inexpensive) bus lines also serve Washington
from New York City.
By train:
Amtrak
serves Washington, DC with Union Station being the most convenient stop for
the symposium. Union Station is also on the Metro's Red line, just 4-5
stops from hotels around the Farragut Square and Dupont Circle
neighborhoods. |
