Natchitoches, Louisiana is located in northwest Louisiana (see About Natchitoches).
By Air:
| Shreveport or Alexandria, Louisiana
airports (70 miles from, or 1-hour drive to, Natchitoches) New Orleans airport (250 miles from, or 5-hour drive to, Natchitoches) |
There is no regularly-scheduled transport from any of the commercial airports to Natchitoches. Rental cars are available in Shreveport and New Orleans, but must be reserved in advance.
From Shreveport:
| Optional ground transport to and from the Shreveport Airport will be contracted by US/ICOMOS; Symposium attendees must pre-register and pre-pay for this service (see Registration Form). |
From New Orleans:
For those wishing to spend a few days
in New Orleans before or after the Symposium, Tulane University is
organizing bus transport, a plantation tour along the way, and lunch
on the northbound trek on Wednesday the 23rd, returning on Saturday
afternoon (26th) to arrive in New Orleans about 8 pm

Many of the Bed-&-Breakfasts listed below are located in the historic district and are within walking district of the conference facilities. However the number of rooms is limited and conference attendees should look to the Ramada Inn for additional rooms. A regular shuttle van service will provide transportation from the Ramada Inn to the Historic District where most of the conference activities will take place.

For those wishing to spend a few days in New Orleans before or after the Symposium, Tulane University is organizing bus transport, a plantation tour along the way, and lunch on the northbound trek. The bus will leave New Orleans for Natchitoches on the morning of Wednesday the 24th and will return on Saturday afternoon (the 27th) to arrive in New Orleans about 8pm.
