"One of the most encouraging and satisfying elements to my work product was that it has the ability to truly impact the ICOMOS Secretariat in the long-term furture.'"

Meghan Boyce
2006 US/ICOMOS
Intern to ICOMOS, Paris, France

This internship was funded by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation with additional support from private donors.

ICOMOS Secretariat, Paris

Meghan Boyce's primary responsibilities involved compiling comparison study reports for each 2007 nomination to the World Heritage List.  The reports included information, such as property criteria selection, about previous nomiminations to the same typology within a given state and region as well as a review of the tentative World Heritage List properties.  Each report consisted of three parts, including the State Party's previous nomination record of properties of similar typology, similar properties in the surrounding region of the nominated site, and similar properties on the tentative list.

In addition to this primary project, Meghan created an extensive memo outling the design of a database that could be suited to the specific needs of ICOMOS for evaluating World Heritage nominations.  The memo included the rationale for such a database, a sample database, and a brief tutorial for use with the draft database.

The US/ICOMOS International Intern Exchange Program is funded by a variety sources.  Each of the host organizations in the U.S. contributed funds that cover a substantial portion of the costs for interns from overseas.  Grants from private foundations and individual donors supported the internships for U.S. preservationists traveling overseas, with additional support from some of the overseas host organizations.  The 2006 overseas internships were supported by the Keepers Fund for Historic Preservation, Marpat Foundation, Royal Oak Foundation, Samuel H. Kress Foundation, and contributions from numerous individuals.
