completed a 2004 US/ICOMOS Internship with the

National Park Services'
HABS/HAER/HALS Program
Washington, DC, USA

"The time spent in the  office and in Washington, DC has allowed me to interact with different people, professionals and others, who had diverse experiences in historic preservation work as well as documentation work."

Fatima Al-Nammari
2004 US/ICOMOS
Intern from Jordan

Fatima Al-Nammari worked primarily in the Washington, DC office finalizing documentation drawings of buildings and landscapes related to New Jersey's cranberrry cultivation industry.  While most of the data had been previously collected using GPS and GIS software, Fatima did make a short trip to the small village of Whitesbog to obtain more data.  Back in the office, she used ArcMap, AutoCad, and Photoshop to compile and deliver the final documents required for the project.

In Washington, Fatima was able to tour many of the capitol city's historic sites and monuments, on many occasions with other US/ICOMOS International Interns who were working with the National Park Service.

This internship was sponsored by the National Park Service's
Historic American Building Survey/Historic American Engineering Record/
Historic American Landscape Survey in Washington, DC.

The US/ICOMOS International Intern Exchange Program is funded by a variety sources.  Each of the host organizations in the U.S. contribute funds that cover a substantial portion of the costs for interns from overseas.  Grants from private foundations and individual donors support the internships for U.S. preservationists traveling overseas, with additional support from some of the overseas host organizations.  The 2004 overseas internships were supported by the Dorothy-Ann Foundation, Marpat Foundation, Keepers Fund for Historic Preservation, Samuel H. Kress Foundation, Trust for Mutual Understanding, and contributions from numerous individuals.
