Kasa Balik had the opportunity to work with the National Park Service's HABS/HAER program. Her project centered around historic Mount Vernon Place in Baltimore, Maryland. Mount Vernon Place is home to the first monument to George Washington built in the United States (1809). The park and street grid were laid out in the 1830s and 1840s, eventually becoming an important urban landscape design surrounded by large and ornate townhouses constructed by some of Baltimore's wealthiest citizens. Kasa's work included making a tree inventory of four of the 'gardens' within the park, making measured drawings of architectural details, and contributing to a conceptual plan for renovations to the park. |
