The International Council on Monuments and Sites is one of three Advisory Bodies named in the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage to advise the Intergovernmental World Heritage Committee on the inscription of properties on the World Heritage List. To fulfill its obligations concerning cultural properties, ICOMOS undertakes comparative and thematic studies, often with partner organizations, in different subject areas in order to provide a context for its evaluations.
