July 15, 2002.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the President of ICOMOS International Wood Committee, Mr. David
Michelmore, the UNESCO Moscow Office has the honor to invite you to a
three-day trip to Kargopol, Northwest Russia, for this year's annual meeting
of ICOMOS International Wood Committee. This will be the 13th symposium of the
committee.
The trip will take place from September 25 to September 29. Travel expenses
within the Russian territory will not exceed US $ 150, including train
tickets, accommodation and transfers.
Departure from Moscow is planned on the evening of September 25. Return to
Moscow is scheduled for September 29, early in the morning.
This event will include excursions to the old Russian city of Kargopol and
to Kenozero, a National Park with more than eighty important wooden
monuments, churches, and manor houses. The site is also an interesting
archeological area, surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape.
The Kenozero National Park was chosen as the site of the 13th ICOMOS International
Wood Committee Symposium , because the UNESCO Moscow Office has
elaborated a project proposal to help conserve the Park's monuments and
foster the area's sustainable development. UNESCO would like to present and
discuss this project during this meeting as one of the topics.
Please confirm you participation by the end of August. If you have further
questions, please feel free to contact us (Ms. Eugenie Gresta) using the
contacts mentioned below.
Looking forward to meeting you in Russia.
Best regards,
W. Reuther
