Travel Information

Please note that in order to travel to China you will need to acquire a visa! Apply for one through your local Chinese embassy early to prevent delays and complications!


For foreign participants, Jishou City is not accessible by direct flight. You are advised to travel through Chengdu International Airport - short (~one hour) domestic flights are available to bring you to Zhangjiajie, where Jishou University will be providing shuttle busses to the conference venue. Flights to Zhangjiajie are also available from Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.


Check back soon for information on hotel pricing and availability - we recommend conducting preliminary research on websites such as tripadvisor.com to gauge the options, from opulent to economical, in Jishou City.



Tour Information


In cooperation with Jishou University, we are offering a tours to attractions around Jishou, including the Tujia ethnic minority town, the Laosicheng archaeological site, and the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. For participants arriving through Beijing, we have prepared a conference package that includes tours of the Forbidden City, Tian'anmen Square, the Great Wall, and the 2008 Olympic Park For participants arriving through Chengdu, we invite you to join our guided tour to several sites, including the Bronze Age Sanxingdui and Jinsha archaeological parks and museums and the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center. After the conference, participants flying through Xi'an are encouraged to join tours through Xi'an, the ancient Han (206 BCE - 220 CE) capital and home to the Terracotta Army. October 16 to 19

Beijing Conference Package




Beijing, the capital of China, has a rich history and holds near limitless potentional for exploration. This conference package rolls a pre-conference tour and accomodations for Jishou City and the conference itself into a single package. After arriving on the 16th, tours are scheduled on October 17th for Tian'amen Square and the Forbidden City, the location of the Ming and Qing imperial courts. On the 18th, visit the Great Wall, and the 2008 Olympic Park, famous for the 'Bird's Nest' main structure. On the 19th, you will visit the Summer Palace, an extensive imperial retreat, before being taken to the airport for the flight to Zhangjiajie and Jishou City. Xi'an Post-Conference Excursion




Xi'an is one of the oldest cities in China, and served as the capital for many dynasties, including the Qin and Han, as well as the starting point for the Silk Road. Highlights of the Xi'an tour include visits to the Mausoleum of the first Qin Emperor, which features the famous terracotta army, the remains of Chang'an City, the capital of the Han dynasty, and Daming Palace, the home of the Tang dynasty.
