In the eastern waterfront of the Thermaic Gulf in northern Greece, there is the Kellarios bay, the only natural coast of the city of Thessaloniki and the so-called archival archaeological site since 1989.

The entire bay is identified with the Byzantine harbor "Kellerion", which was defined by the beach and an artificial underwater dam, which is preserved intact until our days of the same length of 2 km for the protection of the docked boats of the time.

This area, with its natural, strategic position, played a significant role in the later years, being the place of establishment of allied military forces in the First World War in the city of Thessaloniki

"Mill Network at Kinderdijk-Elshout

The outstanding contribution made by the people of the Netherlands to the technology of handling water is admirably demonstrated by the installations in the Kinderdijk-Elshout area. Construction of hydraulic works for the drainage of land for agriculture and settlement began in the Middle Ages and have continued uninterruptedly to the present day. The site illustrates all the typical features associated with this technology – dykes, reservoirs, pumping stations, administrative buildings and a series of beautifully preserved windmills."
