Anthony Coupe
Committee Member

Anthony Coupe is a partner of Mulloway Studio, an Adelaide - based architecture and design practice that specialises in cultural and civic projects. These projects range from masterplanning for regional communities, design of new buildings, adaptation and conservation of existing, through to detailed exhibition development, museum design and site-specific art installations.

Much of Anthony's work centres on the adaptive re-use of historic sites where interpretation and intense site interrogation forms the basis for future development. He is particularly concerned with sustainability and the re-folding of cultural significance into contemporary practice. The practice uses the Burra Charter framework in order to develop and refine a sense of place, particularly in the (Australian,) post-industrial context.

Anthony retains close connections to both South Australian schools of architecture, running a studio in adaptive re-use using Burra Charter principles at the University of Adelaide, and through occasional tutoring and lecturing. He is an active member of a number of relevant professional organizations, and has amongst others, given papers at the national conferences for Australia ICOMOS (2004 and 2006), and Museums Australia (2003).

As a member of the Australia ICOMOS executive Anthony is keen to contribute to the ongoing running and development of the organization as the premier professional conservation body in Australia.
