Peter Phillips

President

Peter Phillips is a conservation architect in private practice, and is the principal of Orwell & Peter Phillips Architects, a practice that has been active in conservation since it was established by his late father Orwell Phillips in 1948. Peter has been a member of Australia ICOMOS since 1990, and is also a member of the Association for Preservation Technology International and the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. He lectures on conservation to design students in the UTS Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building.

Peter's professional activities include membership of the RAIA Heritage Committee, of which he was Chairman from 1998 to 1992. He has also been a member of the Heritage Council's Fire Access and Services Advisory Panel since its inception in 1984, and was its Chairman between 1989 and 1995. In 1998 Peter edited the revised edition of The Maintenance of Heritage Assets: A Practical Guide for the Heritage Council, and in 1999 he and Don Truman wrote Conservation Guidelines for Building Surveyors for Australia ICOMOS.

Peter was heritage adviser to Sydney City Council from 1996 to 2002, and is currently the maintenance architect for the Justice and Police Museum at Circular Quay, and the Honorary Consulting Architect for the Great Synagogue, Sydney.
