Helen Lardner

Vice-President

Helen Lardner is the director of HLCD Pty Ltd, an innovative heritage consultancy in Melbourne. Since 1991, Helen has advised public sector and private clients on a wide range of heritage and development matters. She is currently a consultant Heritage Advisor to a number of municipalities, and provides advice to state and federal government on heritage issues. Helen is the author of a number of conservation guidelines and published articles.

The practice specialises in complex heritage places requiring a multidisciplinary team approach, such as industrial sites, institutions and major infrastructure. Working with communities and reviving unusual and derelict places is a particular passion. Helen's expertise in materials conservation has also led her to focus on cemeteries, monuments, sculptures and ruins.

Helen joined the Australia ICOMOS Executive in November 2005. A registered architect, she is an active member of the RAIA, chairing the Victorian Heritage Awards Jury in 2005. Helen is also actively involved in TICCIH, The International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage and presented a paper at the TICCIH Congress in Italy, 2006.

Helen undertook a research Master of Architecture in Conservation at the University of Melbourne where she had earlier completed her Bachelor of Architecture degree. She also studied Technology of Stone Conservation at the ICCROM course (Venice 1993) and was the recipient of an International Specialised Skills Fellowship for Overseas Study.

After many years as an ICOMOS member, Helen enjoys contributing to the work of the Executive. Helen has an interest in the 20th Century International Scientific Committee of ICOMOS. In her role as the Membership Secretary for Australia ICOMOS in 2006 and 2007, Helen was keen to involve members in more ICOMOS activities and opportunities. She would also like to see a revival of the networking activities of local Vicomites.
